Social Justice Program

A ‘Stuartholme girl’ is empowered to transform her world. Our Social Justice Program increases our students’ awareness of social justice issues and provides them with opportunities to take action. The School prepares and inspires students to be active, informed and responsible global citizens.

Social Justice Program

The Stuartholme Social Justice Program offers many opportunities:

  • Senior students have a number of social justice formation days, which allow them to investigate in-depth, relevant issues and to formulate actions in response
  • On Harmony Day, students have the opportunity to welcome immigrant and refugee students from local State High Schools for a day of art, drama, music and sports workshops
  • Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Society (JPIC) is a student-led social justice group which provides additional opportunities to raise the School’s awareness of various social justice issues.
  • Students run the campaign annually. This activity challenges people to live on the equivalent of the extreme poverty line for 5 days
  • Fundraising based on the principles of Catholic Social Teaching to support the work of the rscJ Sisters in developing countries, Caritas Australia, St Vincent de Paul, Yeronga State High School, Milpera State High School, Rosies’ Street Van Outreach and Street Swags

A number of Religious Education units also focus on social justice issues and their relationship with Catholic Social Teaching.

Heart and Action Service Learning Program

Our Heart and Action Service Learning Program offers students the experience of entering into relationships with:

  • The elderly at St Paul’s Villa, Bardon
  • Disabled children during our annual
  • Refugee teenagers at a weekly homework club at Yeronga State High School
  • Homeless people in Brisbane through and Brisbane City Council’s

Stuartholme values the contribution our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students make to the life of the school and we acknowledge the learning journey our students are leading us on in relation to reconciliation and acknowledging our past. Some of the highlights of the indigenous perspectives offered at Stuartholme include:

  • and ceremonies
  • A mini immersion in Cherbourg community
  • A Red Earth cultural immersion in the homelands of Cape York is now being offered to students who are in Year 10 or above
